A wonderfully characterful vintage wooden coat and hat rack, retaining layers of old dark green and red/brown paint and fitted with four substantial metal hooks.

This is a proper piece of old utilitarian furniture rather than a modern reproduction. The long timber backboard has clearly spent many years in use, with areas of heavily worn and flaking paint revealing the warm timber beneath. The resulting surface is absolutely packed with character – just the sort of untouched, timeworn finish that works so well in a vintage or industrial interior.

The four simple upright metal hooks are secured to rectangular backplates with slotted screws and have also been painted green at some point in their life. Their straightforward construction gives the piece a distinctly practical feel, suggesting use in a workshop, school, changing room, farm building or similar working environment.

There are existing fixing holes towards each end of the board for wall mounting. I have retained the paint exactly as it is rather than restoring it; the wear is really what makes this piece.

A great piece for an entrance hall, boot room, utility room, kitchen or bathroom, and equally appealing as a shop, café or pub fitting. Scarves, aprons, hats, lightweight coats or even bunches of dried flowers would look particularly good against that wonderfully distressed paint.

We think these are made from an old oak door ( old hinge marks etc) totally original not reproduction you just can't replicate this age!!! Hand painted both sides

Condition: Good vintage condition with considerable age-related wear. There is extensive loss, chipping and flaking to the old painted surface, together with knocks, scratches, marks and general wear to the timber and metal. These are very much part of its authentic appearance. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

Why we love it: This one is all about the surface. The combination of old green paint, exposed timber and simple iron hooks gives it that genuinely salvaged, “found in an old workshop” look that is extremely difficult to reproduce convincingly.
