A charming original vintage gentleman’s collar box, dating approximately to the 1920s–1940s, made from sturdy card with a textured red covering and the word “Collars” attractively scripted across the lid.

These circular boxes were designed for storing the detachable starched collars that were once an essential part of a gentleman’s wardrobe. Before permanently attached shirt collars became the norm, collars were frequently removed for laundering and starching, with boxes such as this keeping them clean, organised and protected between wears.

This example has a particularly appealing deep red colour, with a contrasting pale interior and a wonderfully timeworn appearance. The original lid fits over the cylindrical base and retains its decorative lettering.

There is plenty of genuine age-related wear, including rubbing, scuffing, losses to the covering around the lid edge and general surface marks. Rather than detracting, this gives the box plenty of authentic character and makes it an attractive decorative piece in its own right.

Perfect for a vintage dressing room, haberdashery display, gentleman’s collection or period interior, and equally useful today for storing small accessories, keepsakes or ephemera.
