A wonderfully practical antique oak umbrella and walking stick stand, dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910. Amazing small size would fit in any modern home apartment etc!

Made in solid oak, the stand has a wonderfully simple Arts & Crafts influenced design, with four tall uprights terminating in softly rounded ends and a rectangular upper framework divided into sections for holding umbrellas, walking sticks and canes.

The lower section incorporates a shallow wooden base with a central green-painted metal insert, designed to collect moisture from wet umbrellas. The green finish provides a lovely contrast against the warm colour of the aged oak and adds to the stand's wonderfully authentic period appearance.

The oak has developed a rich, mellow colour and plenty of character through age and use. Its restrained design makes this an especially versatile piece, equally at home in a traditional entrance hall, country cottage, boot room or a more contemporary interior.

Condition

Good antique condition with age-related marks, knocks, scratches, variations in colour and general surface wear throughout, all consistent with its considerable age and previous use. There is visible wear, marking and oxidation to the green-painted metal insert. The oak retains a very pleasing aged patina.
