Antique late 19th early 20th century Toleware/ japanned Storage Tin / Decorative Metal Canister

A beautifully aged antique toleware metal storage tin, with a tall rectangular form, hinged lid and small brass-toned clasp. The dark painted surface has developed a wonderfully authentic distressed finish over time, with areas of rubbing, paint loss, oxidation and patina giving it real rustic charm.

Toleware refers to painted or japanned metalware, often made for practical household use but now collected for its decorative appeal. This piece has the look of late 19th to early 20th century domestic storage, possibly once used in a kitchen, pantry, workshop or household setting.

The worn dark finish, simple shape and brass clasp make it a lovely display piece for a country kitchen, farmhouse interior, antique shop display, rustic shelf arrangement or industrial-style décor. It has plenty of age and character, with the sort of surface wear that decorators and collectors often look for in genuine old metalware.

Condition:

Antique used condition with heavy age-related wear, paint loss, surface marks, oxidation, rust spotting and discolouration throughout. The hinged lid opens and closes and the clasp is present.
