A wonderfully characterful antique glass inkwell, dating to around the late 19th to early 20th century.

Made from substantial clear moulded glass, the inkwell has an unusually bold sculptural form with deep curved panels and protruding lobes that catch and reflect the light beautifully. It is finished with a brass-toned metal collar and a charming hinged lid decorated with an embossed floral rosette design.

The hinged cover lifts to reveal the ink well beneath, with the surviving internal residue and patination giving the piece plenty of genuine period character. The metalwork has developed an attractive aged finish rather than being highly polished.

A lovely survivor from the age of handwritten correspondence and desk accessories, and an appealing decorative piece for a writing desk, study, collector's cabinet or period interior.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-related surface wear, patination and tarnishing to the metalwork. There is old ink/residue within the well and general signs of historic use. Please study the photographs as these form an important part of the description.
