Vintage Blue & White Spatter Art Glass Posy Vase – Cobalt Blue Decoration

Vintage Blue & White Spatter Art Glass Posy Vase – Cobalt Blue Decoration

A charming little vintage art glass posy vase, combining beautiful milky-white glass with expressive splashes of cobalt blue. Its wonderfully free-flowing decoration gives this piece an almost painterly quality, making it an eye-catching addition to any vintage glass collection.

The vase has an attractive rounded, bulbous body, gently narrowing into a short neck before opening into a softly flared rim. The rich blue streaks and splashes appear to be incorporated within the glass itself, creating a wonderfully abstract design against the smooth white background.

Believed to date from the latter half of the 20th century, this delightful little vase reflects the popularity of colourful decorative art glass produced throughout Europe during this period.

Although the maker and country of origin remain unidentified, its distinctive colouring and pleasing proportions give it plenty of decorative appeal.

Perfect for displaying a few freshly picked garden flowers, a delicate posy or simply standing alone as a decorative piece. Its classic blue-and-white colouring would look particularly lovely in a cottage-style kitchen, on a vintage dresser or amongst a collection of interesting glassware.

Why We Love It

We particularly love the spontaneity of the cobalt-blue decoration. The splashes and sweeping strokes bring movement and character to the glass, while its wonderfully rounded shape gives this little vase a pleasing, almost sculptural appearance. A lovely example of how even the smallest vintage pieces can make a decorative statement.

A Little History

Decorative spatter glass has a long history, with glassmakers experimenting with contrasting colours and irregular patterns to create individual and expressive designs.

During the 20th century, European glasshouses developed many variations of this technique, often combining opaque white glass with vivid colours to produce affordable yet attractive decorative pieces.

The maker of this particular vase has not been established, but its blue-and-white combination and abstract decoration reflect this broader tradition of decorative art glass.

A delightful little vintage find, full of colour and character, ready to bring a touch of nostalgic charm to a new home.
