## Vintage British Made Margarine Wooden Advertising Crate – Rustic Storage Box

**Price: £55.00**

A wonderful piece of British commercial history, this original vintage wooden margarine crate has plenty of rustic charm, character and evidence of a working life.

36 cm wide

17 cm tall

30 cm depth

Featuring bold black stencilled lettering reading **“BRITISH MADE MARGARINE”**, this old wooden crate dates, we believe, to the first half of the 20th century, when wooden boxes were widely used for transporting and distributing everyday grocery products.

Constructed from solid timber boards with traditional nailed joints, the crate has an open top, naturally aged wood and beautifully weathered surfaces. The original advertising lettering remains wonderfully visible, despite the passing years.

**A Little History**

Before cardboard cartons and plastic containers became commonplace, wooden crates were an essential part of Britain's food distribution network. Products such as margarine, butter, tea and other grocery staples were packed and transported in practical wooden boxes, often bearing the manufacturer's name or details of their contents.

This surviving example offers a glimpse into a bygone era of British grocery shops, food production and traditional commercial packaging.

**Why We Love It**

It's the wonderfully worn lettering and honest, untouched appearance that make this crate so appealing. Once an everyday piece of working packaging, it now lends itself beautifully to the vintage home.

Perfect for storing books, magazines, textiles wine or garden trug or other household treasures, it would also make an attractive rustic display piece in a kitchen, pantry, shop or café.

For those who love reclaimed interiors, industrial styling and objects with a story to tell, this is a lovely example of everyday social history given a new lease of life.

**Condition**

Vintage condition with considerable age-related wear, including scratches, scuffs, staining, discolouration, surface marks, small holes and areas of worn timber. The original stencilled lettering shows fading and wear but remains clearly recognisable. This is exactly the look you want totally original!!! Not reproduction you just can't replicate this kind of patina or wear lots of old repairs made with old nails no modern screws etc !!!

These signs of age are part of the character and history of this old working crate. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

*The stool used for photographic display is not included.*

**A lovely piece of British grocery history, ready to be appreciated and repurposed once again.**

I would also describe this as early to mid-20th century, rather than giving it a definite 1920s or 1930s date as we have no concrete additional evidence.although we are confident that it is at least 70 to 80 years old!!!!
