Vintage Tala Metal Utility Carrier – Rustic Green & Blue Industrial Trug

Vintage Tala Metal Utility Carrier – Rustic Green & Blue Industrial Trug – Mid 20th Century

40 cm tall to top handle

23 cm tall bucket

32 cm wide

23 cm depth

A wonderfully characterful vintage metal carrier by British manufacturer Tala, with a fabulous timeworn finish and plenty of rustic charm.

Dating approximately to the mid-20th century, this substantial rectangular metal container features rounded corners, a deep open body and a sturdy hinged carrying handle that folds down when not required.

The original working life of this piece is uncertain, but its practical design suggests a household or utility carrier, equally suited to the kitchen, garden or workshop.

What really makes this piece special is its remarkable surface. Layers of weathered green and pale blue paint have worn away over the years, revealing areas of exposed metal and surface rust. The resulting patina gives it an authentic industrial farmhouse appearance that simply cannot be replicated by modern reproductions.

The underside bears a worn impressed Tala maker's mark.

A Little Maker History

Tala has a fascinating history dating back to 1899, when Frederick Taylor and Thomas Law established Taylor Law & Co. Ltd in Birmingham.

Initially producing metal household and kitchen goods, the company manufactured everything from baking equipment and kitchen utensils to galvanised tubs, storage containers and other practical household items.

During the 1920s, Frank Law introduced the Tala name, combining elements of the two founders' surnames.

By the middle of the 20th century, Tala had become a familiar name in British homes, particularly recognised for its practical kitchenware and colourful metal household accessories.

Today, vintage Tala pieces are enjoyed by collectors of traditional British kitchenalia and those who appreciate well-made, functional objects from the past.

A New Lease of Life

This old carrier offers plenty of possibilities for creative reuse.

Fill it with seasonal flowers for a rustic garden display, use it to hold bottles for entertaining, or repurpose it as attractive storage for gardening tools, magazines, craft supplies or household essentials. ( See pictures illustration only not included)

Its aged finish works particularly well with farmhouse, industrial, country cottage and vintage-inspired interiors.

For planting, we recommend using a separate waterproof liner or plant pots.

Condition

In heavily weathered vintage condition, with extensive paint loss, surface rust, scratches, marks and general wear throughout.

These signs of age and previous use are very much part of its character and appeal.

The hinged metal handle remains attached and can be folded down.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

Why We Love It

We love pieces that tell their own story, and this old Tala carrier certainly does. Its glorious patches of faded blue against the dark green, combined with decades of genuine wear, give it tremendous decorative appeal.

An honest, hardworking household object ready to begin an entirely new chapter.
