A lovely Edwardian cut glass perfume or scent bottle, dating to 1904, with a beautifully decorated sterling silver mount and substantial faceted glass stopper. There are reminents of old powder or perfume could easily be cleaned personally I think it adds to the history

The heavy clear glass body has an attractive panelled form with deep cut decoration to the sides, while the shoulder is finished with an ornate silver mount worked with scrolling foliate motifs. The matching stopper has a large multi-faceted top which catches the light particularly well and gives the bottle a rather luxurious dressing-table appearance.

The silver collar carries London assay marks for 1904, including the lion passant for sterling silver and the London leopard's head. The 1904–05 London date letter was the lower-case “i”.

There is also a somewhat worn maker's or sponsor's punch which appears to read “S L”. I haven't found a sufficiently convincing early-20th-century London match to attribute this confidently to a named silversmith, so I would describe the maker as possibly S L / maker's mark indistinct rather than risk an incorrect attribution.

The glass stopper fits neatly into the bottle and appears consistent with the period and bottle. There is some noticeable clouding, residue and marking to the interior of the glass from many years of use, together with the expected light surface wear and tarnishing to the silver. This is all very much part of its 120-year history and is clearly shown in the photographs.

Dating from the fashionable Edwardian period, silver-mounted scent bottles of this type were often found amongst ladies' dressing-table and travelling accessories. Comparable 1904 silver-mounted glass scent bottles currently range quite widely, from around £75 for smaller or less clearly marked examples to £150–£160+ for particularly good dealer examples.
