Vintage arts and crafts 1940s oak and bevelled edge copper corner table mirror this truly stunning mirror could be attributed to renowned artists Peter Waals and Ernest Gimson. The quality and weight is outstanding. Absolutely beautiful. Peter van der Waals 1870 to 1937, was a dutch cabinet maker associated with the arts and crafts movement. His work is highly sought after and very collectible. The mirror or plate as it's known has a lovely bezel edge sign of a quality object and 4 hand beaten copper edging 20 cm wide 28 1/2 cm tall 1 1/2 cm depth some minor age related wear the rear stand has flaking and there is a very small hardly noticeable chip to the very top of glass does not detract from the beauty of the item stunning!
Peter waals answered an advertisement in the Times for a cabinet maker and joined Ernest Gimson and Ernest Barnsley in Cirencester early in 1901. From 1902 he worked as foreman of Gimson’s furniture workshop at Daneway House near Sapperton. About ten cabinet makers ranging from skilled men to local apprentices worked at Daneway.
Waals had very high standards as a craftsman and a good eye for choosing timber. He was the person who would normally go to timber merchants in London to purchase the more exotic woods and veneers for both Gimson and Sidney Barnsley.
After Gimson’s death in 1919, Waals  set up his own workshop making domestic pieces in the village of Chalford.
