Vintage Studio Pottery Tall Brown Glazed Cylinder Vase – Impressed Maker's Mark

This is an attractive piece of vintage studio pottery, with a beautifully understated form and rich chocolate-brown glaze. I particularly like the gently flared rim and subtle variations in the glaze, which give it a lovely mid-century feel.

The impressed square maker's mark is interesting. I've checked pottery-mark references, but I haven't been able to identify the potter confidently, so I can't attach a specific maker's name for now. ( Possibly ikebana? Japanese) More research required

Vintage Studio Pottery Tall Brown Glazed Cylinder Vase – Impressed Maker's Mark – Mid-Century Style

A beautifully simple vintage studio pottery vase, featuring an elegant cylindrical form, gently flared opening and wonderfully rich, earthy brown glaze.

The glaze has subtle variations in colour, ranging from deep chocolate brown to warmer reddish-brown tones, with a soft sheen that catches the light. The gently tapered body and flared rim create a balanced, almost architectural silhouette.

Believed to date from the mid-to-late 20th century, this is a lovely example of the understated, functional aesthetic associated with traditional studio pottery.

Maker's Mark & History

The underside bears a small impressed square potter's seal or monogram, ( we believe may be ikebane?) indicating a maker's mark, although the exact pottery or individual potter has not yet been identified.

The vase reflects the wider studio pottery tradition that became particularly influential during the 20th century, when individual craftspeople embraced traditional techniques, natural glazes and simple, functional forms.

Its restrained design and earthy colouring are reminiscent of the Anglo-Japanese influence seen in much post-war studio pottery.
