Vintage Art Deco Style Ceramic Toast Rack – Green, Black & Cream – 1930s or 40s

Vintage Art Deco Style Ceramic Toast Rack – Green, Black & Cream – Possibly 1930s/1940s

Description

A charming piece of vintage kitchenalia with a wonderfully distinctive Art Deco-inspired design, this colourful ceramic toast rack brings a little character and nostalgia to the breakfast table.

Featuring five beautifully shaped upright dividers, this unusual toast rack has a warm cream-coloured glazed body, complemented by striking turquoise-green and black detailing. The contrasting colours follow the curved edges of the dividers, creating an eye-catching geometric design typical of the Art Deco period.

At either end are two decorative loop handles, one predominantly green and the other black, adding another quirky touch to this attractive piece.

Believed to date from around the 1930s–1940s, although a later production date cannot be ruled out, the toast rack is likely made from glazed earthenware. Its styling reflects the growing popularity of colourful, decorative household ceramics during the early to mid-20th century.

The underside is unmarked, so we have been unable to establish a manufacturer or place of origin.

Designed to hold four slices of toast, this lovely little rack would make a delightful addition to a collection of vintage kitchenalia, Art Deco ceramics or decorative tableware. Equally appealing repurposed as a small letter holder or desk organiser.

Why We Love It

It's the unusual combination of turquoise-green, black and cream that makes this little toast rack so appealing. The shaped dividers and contrasting handles give it a wonderfully playful appearance, while its compact proportions make it an easy piece to display.

A lovely example of how even the simplest everyday household objects could be made both practical and decorative.

Condition

Good vintage condition, with all five upright dividers intact and no chips or cracks to the dividers.

There are small areas of glaze loss to the coloured handles, together with some minor surface marks, signs of wear and light discolouration consistent with age and previous use.

These imperfections do not detract from its overall decorative charm and are part of the character of this vintage piece.
