A wonderfully colourful vintage confectionery tin produced for Harry Vincent Ltd, makers of the famous Blue Bird Toffees, dating to approximately the 1950s–1960s.

This delightful cylindrical tin is decorated with charming, whimsical illustrations featuring children, toy trains, teddy bears, rabbits and other playful characters. The cheerful yellow background, bright red lid and vibrant mid-century graphics give it a wonderfully nostalgic appeal.

The removable lid features two children beside a railway track, accompanied by a playful cat and surrounded by little flowers. Around the sides, a lively procession of colourful train carriages carries an assortment of amusing characters, creating a delightful storybook scene.

The underside is embossed with the Blue Bird Confectionery name and the details of Harry Vincent Limited, Hunnington, Worcestershire, England.

A Little History

Harry Vincent established his confectionery business in Birmingham during the late Victorian period, later developing the much-loved Blue Bird Toffees brand.

The company opened its purpose-built factory at Hunnington, near Halesowen, in 1927, becoming an important name in British confectionery manufacturing.

Blue Bird was particularly well known for its decorative sweet tins, which were designed to be treasured and reused long after their original contents had been enjoyed.

This charming example captures the playful spirit of mid-20th-century packaging, when colourful illustrations helped transform an everyday sweet tin into something rather special.

Condition

Good vintage condition with expected signs of age and use, including surface scratches, minor marks and areas of paint loss, particularly around the red lid rim. The interior shows age-related discolouration and wear.

The original removable lid is present, and the colourful illustrations remain bright and attractive.
