Vintage Sellotape Blue Metal Tin – 1970s–1980s Retro Advertising & Stationery

Vintage Sellotape Blue Metal Tin – 1970s–1980s Retro Advertising & Stationery

Description

A wonderfully nostalgic vintage Sellotape tin, dating from approximately the 1970s to early 1980s, with its original vibrant blue finish and distinctive white and black Sellotape branding.

Originally designed to hold a large roll of self-adhesive tape, this circular metal tin is a charming reminder of an era when even everyday stationery came in attractive, reusable packaging.

The lid features the iconic Sellotape logo alongside the wording "25mm x 66m (Replaces 1” x 72 Yds)", reflecting Britain's transition from imperial to metric measurements.

Around the side is the manufacturer's name, Sellotape Products Ltd., Borehamwood, Herts, adding another interesting detail to this piece of British commercial history.

A Little History

Sellotape was introduced in Britain in 1937 and quickly became one of the country's most recognisable household brands.

The company established a major manufacturing presence in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, during the mid-20th century, producing the familiar adhesive tape used in homes, schools, shops and offices across Britain.

The combination of bold graphics, original branding and metric conversion wording suggests this tin dates from around the 1970s to early 1980s.

Today, these original containers are collected as examples of vintage advertising, industrial packaging and everyday British social history.

Condition

In fair vintage condition, displaying genuine signs of age and previous use.

There are scratches, scuffs, surface marks, areas of paint loss and some corrosion, particularly around the edges and inside the tin. The interior shows noticeable oxidation and discolouration.

The original blue finish and printed branding remain attractive and clearly recognisable.

The tin is empty, with no original Sellotape contents included.

Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

Why We Love It

Sometimes it's the simplest everyday objects that bring back the fondest memories!

We love the cheerful blue colour, instantly recognisable Sellotape logo and the wonderfully practical idea of keeping a roll of sticky tape in its own metal tin.

A delightful little survivor from Britain's stationery history, perfect for a collection of vintage advertising tins, a retro office display or simply as an interesting decorative curiosity.

A small piece of everyday history with plenty of nostalgic charm.
