Vintage Kinnerton Confectionery Walt Disney Productions Character Tin, c.1980

A wonderfully nostalgic vintage Walt Disney Productions confectionery tin, believed to have been produced by Kinnerton Confectionery and dating to around the early to mid-1980s.

The circular tin is decorated in a vivid blue colourway with a fantastic wraparound collection of much-loved Disney characters. The lid features Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia, while the sides bring together characters including Pinocchio, Pluto, Donald Duck, Bambi, several of the Seven Dwarfs, Merlin and Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone, along with Elliott from Pete’s Dragon.

Along the lower edge is the earlier “Walt Disney Productions” copyright wording, together with the words “London” and “New York”. The Walt Disney Productions name was used before the company became The Walt Disney Company in 1986, helping to place this piece firmly within the vintage period.

The format and markings are consistent with Kinnerton Confectionery character tins produced for sweets and confectionery during the late 1970s and 1980s. Kinnerton became well known for licensed character confectionery, making this a lovely surviving example of early Disney merchandising.

The tin measures approximately:

Height: 9 cm

Diameter: 8.5 cm

Condition:

This is a genuine vintage item and shows clear signs of age and use. The printed decoration remains bright and colourful overall, with some surface rubbing, scratches and small areas of wear. There is visible oxidation and rust around the lower rim, lid edge and particularly to the underside of the base. The interior also shows spotting, tarnishing and age-related marks. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.

Despite the wear, the lively character artwork displays beautifully and gives the tin plenty of nostalgic charm.

Why we love it:

The sheer number of classic Disney characters packed onto this little tin makes it especially appealing. It is one of those pieces that instantly feels nostalgic, with wonderful colour, familiar faces and exactly the sort of honest age-related wear collectors often love in vintage advertising and character tins.

A fun addition to a Disneyana collection, vintage nursery display, retro kitchen shelf or collection of character confectionery tins.

We describe all items to the best of our knowledge and research. Vintage and antique items will naturally show signs of age and previous use. Colours may vary slightly depending on screen settings and lighting.
