A delightful pair of vintage decorative sweet tins featuring adorable Cocker Spaniel puppies, full of nostalgic charm and mid-century character.

Dating from approximately the 1950s–1960s, these colourful tins capture the playful innocence of vintage animal photography, when charming images of puppies and kittens were a popular choice for confectionery packaging.

The first is a round tin featuring two golden Cocker Spaniel puppies peeping out of a pink and white wicker basket against a vibrant blue background. The second is an eight-sided tin with a bright red body, decorated with three Cocker Spaniel puppies sitting together amongst colourful flowers.

Although different in shape and decoration, the two complement one another beautifully, making a lovely little collection for dog lovers and enthusiasts of vintage tins.

A Little History

Decorative confectionery tins became increasingly popular during the mid-20th century, often featuring cheerful photographic images designed to appeal to families and children. Once the original sweets or toffees had been enjoyed, the tins were frequently kept and reused for storing small household treasures.

Interestingly, the design on the round tin has also been found on examples associated with Penguin Confectionery Co. Ltd of Carlisle, England. However, neither of these tins has a confirmed manufacturer's mark, so their individual makers remain unverified.

Condition

Both tins are in vintage condition, showing the expected signs of age and previous use.

The round tin retains its attractive, colourful decoration, with some light surface marks, scratches and wear.

The eight-sided tin has more noticeable age-related wear, including surface scratches, marks, areas of paint loss and oxidation to the interior. The decorative puppy image remains appealing.
