Vintage Hand made and Painted Studio Pottery Wildflower Planter / Cachepot Folk

This has a lovely folk-art feel to it. I’d describe it as a hand-painted studio pottery planter/cachepot unfortunately we cannot attribute it to a particular maker, as there’s no visible mark. The meadow decoration is charming, but the underside cracking and small very minor rim chip we have priced sensibly.

Vintage Hand made and Painted Studio Pottery Wildflower Planter / Cachepot – Folk Art Style

A wonderfully cheerful hand-painted pottery planter or cachepot, decorated with a loose, almost naïve wildflower meadow design.

The substantial ceramic pot has a gently flared rim picked out in deep blue, beneath which is a softly painted blue sky. The lower section is decorated as a green meadow scattered with individually painted flowers in shades of pink, blue and yellow, together with darker textured foliage. The deliberately relaxed brushwork gives the piece plenty of character and a particularly appealing folk-art or country cottage feel.

The interior is finished in a simple cream glaze, allowing the colourful exterior decoration to take centre stage. With its generous proportions, it would make a lovely decorative planter for a country, cottage, farmhouse or eclectic interior and would also display beautifully simply as a decorative piece.

There is no maker's mark that we can identify, so we are selling this as an attractive piece of hand-decorated studio pottery rather than attributing it to a particular pottery or artist.

Condition:

This is a pre-owned piece showing signs of age and use. There is one small chip to the glaze around the upper rim and a further tiny chip ( may have happened when fired) close to the lower edge. Of particular note, there are several radiating cracks visible across the underside/base. These are stable and I have filled with water there are no leaks very decorative watertight liner/pot There is also general crazing, surface wear and variation to the hand-painted decoration, all of which form part of its character. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. There are paint marks around top these are not chips as appear in photos and may be removed
