Vintage Green Painted Metal Industrial Lantern / Lamp Case – Glazed Front

A wonderfully characterful vintage metal lantern or lamp case, finished in deep green paint and retaining a large glazed panel to the front.

This is a substantial old utilitarian piece, probably dating from the first half to mid-20th century. Its precise original application is uncertain, although the box-like construction, glazed viewing panel, domed ventilating top and wire hanging fittings suggest it formed part of an industrial, railway or other utility lighting installation. With no maker's marks or provenance to confirm this, we prefer not to attribute it to a particular railway or organisation.

The rectangular pressed-metal body has a particularly good timeworn appearance, with layers and variations to the green finish, surface rust, scratches, paint loss and plenty of genuine age-earned patina. The domed circular top gives it a distinctive silhouette, while the rear retains simple wire hanging loops. The underside also shows the original pressed construction and fittings.

The front glass remains in place and the interior is now empty. No burner, electrical fittings or other light source is present, so it is offered as a decorative vintage lamp case rather than as a working light.

A fabulous piece of industrial salvage that would look superb displayed as it is, incorporated into a creative lighting project, or used as an unusual decorative feature in a kitchen, hallway, garden room, shop, pub or commercial interior.

Condition: Good vintage decorative condition with considerable age-related wear. There is surface rust, oxidation, paint loss, scratches, marks and unevenness to the painted finish throughout. The glass has age-related marks and dirt. Please study the photographs carefully as these form an important part of the description. Sold as a decorative/salvage item.

It has enough size, age and industrial presence to justify more than an ordinary lantern, even without being able to prove a railway connection. ( Originally red with a blue base?)
