Vintage Walt Disney Mickey & Minnie Mouse Ramp Walker Toy by Louis Marx & Co.

Vintage Walt Disney Mickey & Minnie Mouse Ramp Walker Toy by Louis Marx & Co. – c.1960s

A wonderfully characterful vintage Disney novelty toy featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse walking side by side while carrying a picnic basket between them.

Made by Louis Marx & Co. and believed to date from around the 1960s, this small moulded plastic toy is designed as a gravity-operated “ramp walker”. When placed on a gently sloping surface, the articulated feet rock alternately, allowing Mickey and Minnie to slowly “walk” forward together.

Mickey is dressed in a bright yellow top with red shorts, while Minnie wears green with red detailing. Between them they carry a moulded black basket with colourful contents, giving the piece a particularly charming mid-century toy-shop appearance.

The moulded Louis Marx & Co. trademark can be seen on Minnie’s green dress, helping to confirm the maker.

Louis Marx & Co. was one of the most prolific toy manufacturers of the 20th century, producing an enormous range of mechanical, tinplate and moulded plastic toys. The company also produced licensed Disney character toys, including a number of clever gravity-operated walkers such as this example.

The original walking mechanism remains in working order. When placed on a suitable gentle incline, the articulated feet move alternately and the pair walk forwards without the need for a key, spring or motor.

Condition

A genuine vintage toy with noticeable age-related and play wear throughout. There is paint loss, rubbing and surface wear, particularly around the ears, noses, faces, clothing, basket and shoes, together with small scratches and marks consistent with use and age.

All four articulated feet are present and the gravity walking mechanism is working.

There are no obvious major cracks or significant losses visible to us. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.

Dimensions

Approx. 7 cm high × 7 cm wide × 3 cm deep.

Why We Love It

Small, slightly battered and absolutely full of personality. What initially appears to be a simple Disney figurine is actually a clever little piece of mechanical toy design, with Mickey and Minnie happily waddling downhill together carrying their picnic basket. A lovely display piece for a vintage toy or Disney collection.

We describe all items to the best of our knowledge and based on the information available to us. As with all vintage items, signs of age and previous use should be expected.
