Vintage 1960s Cadbury Bird Biscuit Tin – Colourful Mid-Century Design

A wonderfully cheerful vintage Cadbury biscuit tin dating from the 1960s, decorated with a fabulous array of brightly coloured stylised birds amongst trees and foliage.

Produced for Cadbury Bros. Ltd., Bournville, England, the tin is a great example of British mid-century packaging design. Against the crisp white background, the birds appear in vibrant shades of turquoise blue, pink, orange, yellow and purple, accompanied by abstract trees and foliage. The artwork has a distinctly 1960s feel and makes the tin every bit as appealing today as a piece of decorative vintage kitchenalia.

The tin is marked “Cadbury Bros. Ltd., Bournville, England” to one side and “6 MB Container Made in Great Britain”, identifying the manufacturer as the Metal Box Company, one of Britain's best-known producers of decorated tins and packaging.

Examples of this bird-design Cadbury tin are associated with the company's Milk Assorted Chocolate Biscuits, making this an attractive survivor from an era when confectionery packaging was designed to be kept and reused rather than simply thrown away.

The removable lid carries a larger version of the colourful bird design, while individual birds and branches continue around all four sides. The underside is plain metal.

Dimensions: approximately 26cm long × 14.5cm wide × 8cm high.

Condition: Good vintage condition with plenty of character. There are scratches, scuffs, rubbing and areas of surface wear, particularly around the edges and rim of the lid, together with marks associated with age and previous use. There is also age-related wear internally and scratching to the plain metal base. Importantly, the colourful printed bird decoration remains wonderfully bright and eye-catching.
