Sanitary revolution

Queen Victoria commissions

Queen Victoria commissioned Doulton to create water filters for her castles and palaces.

Move to Staffordshire

In 1882, the company moved to Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, to focus on fine bone china tableware and decorative items.

Royal warrant

In 1901, the company received a royal warrant and permission to use "royal" in the name.

Post-World War II

The company shifted production to simpler designs that could be mass produced more affordably.

English Translucent China

In the 1960s, the company introduced English Translucent China, which is now better known as Royal Doulton Fine China.
