Vintage 1950s Tala Pastry Cutters Tin – Cream & Green Made in England 2 Cutters

A charming piece of classic British kitchenalia, this vintage Tala pastry cutter tin dates from around the 1950s and comes in a particularly appealing cream and green colourway.

The cylindrical metal container has a softly domed green hinged lid and bold green “PASTRY CUTTERS” lettering around the cream body. Turn it over and the base is embossed with the familiar Tala trademark and “Made in England”.

Opening the hinged lid reveals two original-style metal pastry cutters stored neatly inside. These show considerable age-related oxidation and surface rust, while the interior of the tin also carries the marks of many years of practical kitchen use. The set would originally have contained additional graduated cutters, so please note that only two cutters are included.

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about these old Tala kitchen pieces. Designed to be both useful and attractive, they were made at a time when coordinated kitchenware was becoming an important part of the post-war British home. Today, their distinctive colours and typography make them just as appealing for display as they once were for baking.

About Tala

Tala has been making British kitchenware since the late 19th century, developing from Taylor Law & Co and becoming particularly well known for its baking, icing and cake-decorating equipment. By the mid-20th century, Tala products had become familiar fixtures in British kitchens, with colourful metalware ranges helping to bring a little brightness and order to everyday cooking.

The cream and green colour combination is particularly associated with earlier post-war Tala kitchenware and gives this example a lovely period feel.

Condition

A genuine vintage item showing plenty of honest age-related wear. There are scratches, small chips and areas of paint loss to the cream and green finish, particularly around the edges, rim and hinge. The two cutters and interior metalwork show noticeable oxidation and surface rust.

The wear is very much part of its vintage character, but because of the internal condition we would recommend this primarily as a collectible or decorative piece of vintage kitchenalia, rather than for immediate food preparation.

Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

Measurements

Approximately 10cm diameter × 9cm high.

Why we love it

The colour combination does it for us. The soft cream, wonderfully retro green lid and simple period lettering are unmistakably mid-century British kitchen design. Add the embossed Tala mark and surviving cutters and it becomes a lovely little piece of everyday social history — just the thing for a vintage kitchen shelf, kitchenalia collection or retro display.

Vintage and antique items naturally show signs of age and previous use. We describe every item to the best of our knowledge and aim to photograph it honestly, without digitally disguising wear or damage. Colours may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
