Antique B. & G. 'Ezy' Six-Drawer Filing Cabinet – Early 20th Century

A wonderfully characterful survivor from the days of handwritten correspondence, busy offices and traditional stationers. This charming antique six-drawer filing cabinet combines practical storage with an abundance of vintage character.

Dating to the early 20th century, this original B. & G. 'Ezy' Series cabinet features six shallow wooden drawers, each fitted with a metal finger pull and an integrated label holder. The dark, heavily worn drawer fronts contrast beautifully with the pale sage-green painted exterior, ( we believe recently painted and up cycled) creating an attractive industrial and rustic appearance.

Originally intended for organising paperwork, stationery and documents, the cabinet is equally useful today for storing photographs, craft materials, sewing accessories, jewellery, ephemera and other treasured collections.

Maker's History – B. & G. 'Ezy' Series

Of particular interest is the surviving original manufacturer's paper label, identifying this piece as part of **The B. & G. 'Ezy' Series of 'Handy' Cabinets**.

The label provides a fascinating glimpse into the stationery trade of the early 20th century, when purpose-made storage cabinets helped businesses, schools and households keep their documents organised.

The manufacturer's original advertising describes cabinets produced with either four or six drawers, opening across the broad front. Four different paper formats were offered:

- 8vo (Octavo)

- 4to (Quarto)

- F'cap (Foolscap)

- Music

These different formats accommodated the paperwork, correspondence and sheet music commonly used at the time.

The original advertisement concludes by encouraging customers to ask their stationer for the B. & G. 'Ezy' Series of files and cabinets.

Although the full company name behind the B. & G. initials has not been conclusively established, the surviving label provides an excellent record of the cabinet's original product range and intended use.

Condition

This is an authentic antique cabinet displaying substantial cosmetic wear consistent with its age and working life.

The six wooden drawers retain their metal label-holder pulls and exhibit considerable surface rubbing, scratches, scuffs, worn edges and losses to the dark finish. The exterior has been painted in a pale green colour, with visible imperfections and signs of previous use.

The cabinet retains its original manufacturer's paper label, which shows some age-related discolouration and spotting.

The overall appearance is charmingly timeworn rather than pristine, and the cabinet is offered with its existing patina and character.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

Why We Love It

There's something particularly appealing about old office furniture that has enjoyed a long and useful life.

We love the contrast between the pale painted cabinet and those wonderfully battered dark drawers, complete with their traditional metal label holders. The surviving B. & G. label makes this piece especially interesting, connecting it directly to the history of stationery and office organisation.

Perfect for a vintage-inspired study, craft room, home office or retail display, this is a practical piece of everyday history ready to begin its next chapter.

A delightful combination of antique office storage, industrial character and authentic early 20th-century charm.
