Antique Large Wooden Jointer Plane – Traditional Carpenter's Hand Tool

56 cm long

8 cm square

A wonderful piece of traditional woodworking history, this substantial antique wooden jointer plane is full of rustic character, with a beautifully worn wooden body, shaped handle and the unmistakable patina of a tool that has seen many years of hard work.

Believed to date from the late Victorian or early 20th century, this traditional carpenter's plane would originally have been used to straighten, flatten and smooth long lengths of timber, particularly when preparing boards and creating accurately fitting joints.

Before modern power tools became commonplace, craftspeople relied upon substantial hand planes such as this one, combining skill, experience and carefully maintained cutting edges to produce beautifully finished woodwork.

The plane features a long, solid wooden body, a distinctive sculpted rear handle and traditional wooden wedge arrangement for securing the cutting iron. Its dark, aged finish has developed a wonderful depth of colour over the years.

Condition

Offered in well-used, unrestored condition, with considerable signs of age and working life. There are scratches, knocks, surface wear, old paint splashes and areas of wood loss, particularly around the edges and wooden wedge. The wedge is noticeably worn and damaged, as shown in the photographs.

These imperfections are part of its working history and contribute to its authentic, rustic appearance.

The plane has not been tested for use and is offered primarily as a decorative or collectible piece. Any restoration or return to working condition would be the responsibility of the purchaser.

Why We Love It

There's something rather special about antique woodworking tools. Each mark and worn edge tells a story of the craftspeople who once relied upon them.

This impressive old plane would make a wonderful decorative addition to a traditional workshop, country home, rustic interior or collection of antique tools. It would also make an interesting gift for a carpenter, joiner or woodworking enthusiast.

A genuine piece of traditional craftsmanship, preserved with all the character of its working past.
